Move Away or Stay? with Amanda Weron

Hey. You don’t need to leave your hometown to make it happen. You can, but you don’t need to.

Fall is a season of transition, literally and figuratively. At the beginning of the summer, so many young people were tackling one big question: Move away or stay? Then, as fall approaches, they do it. Move away or stay. But this isn’t just a “young person” thing. As families grow, opportunities arise, and societal shifts happen, many of us have had that fleeting (or sometimes sticking) thought: Move away or stay?

It can be a daydreamy, fantasy-filled thought, imagining moving away. Ahhh… newness. A fresh start. Maybe even a new identity?

But what’s the value of deciding to stay?

In this episode of The Orange Butterfly Effect, I had the pleasure of yapping with the vibrant Amanda Weron, an entrepreneur who decided to stay and thrive. Amanda is the owner of Hue Hair Lounge in Mountain Top, PA. But it’s a competitive landscape. But it’s risky. But how will you manage that and be a mom? But, but, but… Amanda heard it all (mostly from her own inner voice!) BUT she decided to stay and do it anyway.

Amanda shares how self-awareness, confidence, mentorship, and the advice to ‘shoot for the stars’ are guiding her journey to building an empire. Oh! And she’s doing it all while being a proud mama of two.

Okay, but what does this have to do with you?

Have you ever thought about why you decided to move away or stay? If you moved away, do you ever share your “why” with new friends or colleagues? If you stayed, do you own it positively, or do you find yourself saying things like, “I’ll never get out of this place”? Wherever you’ve landed, when’s the last time you actually celebrated where you are? Because if you’re there, there must be something worth staying for. Right? What’s your favorite coffee shop? Your go-to cocktail spot? The route you walk your dog every morning?

So here’s my challenge for you this week: Visit one small business, wherever you call home, and thank them for making the decision to stay.

Behind the Mic

Amanda recently posted a quote on her Instagram that read: “How lucky am I, that I get to spend my days helping women feel their best.” I keep coming back to the “how lucky am I” part. It reminded me of something I hear all the time from Peloton instructors during a HIIT run: “You get to do this.” In the moment, I roll my eyes (admittedly). But afterwards, it hits me. Yeah, we get to do this. I get to do this.

How lucky am I that I get to share the stories of others through this platform? How lucky am I that I get to spend my days as an educator? Lucky.

So, what’s your “how lucky am I” moment? Celebrate it.

Tune in. Take what you need. Pass it on. ✨
